** HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! WE ARE HOME & SLOWLY SETTLING BACK IN **
WITH SOME IMPROVEMENTS!!!!!
Sorry it's been so long since our last update. It was hard coming home so close to Christmas without the fact that we've been covered in white stuff - snow!! We just wanted to enjoy a bit of quality time together as a family - we missed the girls tremendously and needed time out after a very hectic 8 months.
The trip to China was another roller-coaster of emotions BUT we cannot knock the treatment Keiran received. For those of you who followed Keiran's China Blog while we were away you will know how it all went. There are plenty of other things that we experienced whilst out there but will do a 'Summary' later this week or next week but for now I just want to share the improvements Keiran's had:
1) Keiran can now see letters 2.5inches in height - we are having to take him right back to basics and teach him the alphabet & introduce him to writing the letters. He can now read A, B, C, E, S, O and X!!!!! For all you sceptics out there; the sequence of letters shown are never the same - so it's not by memory! This will be a long process for him; but together with his willingness & determination I know that we will learn the rest within a short period of time.
2) Keiran's Nystagmus has calmed right down and his eyes no longer violently flicker.
3) Keiran's Bowel problems appear to be corrected. He no longer has any problems with this.
We are over the moon about the improvements/developments Keiran has had and are so very proud of everything that he's achieved. The feelings I have is so difficult to put into words - to have a child who's gone from not being able to see a written letter/word BUT now can............ It opens other possibilites; he might be able to read print one day ............ something that I/he never thought possible before he received stemcells!!!
The Dr's in China have told us we could expect more improvements over the next 6-9 months as the stemcells are immature & they need chance to grow. Back to playing the waiting game; but hopefully things will be worth the wait. Keep everything crossed for us!!!!
Thank you again to all of you who have helped Keiran get this opportunity. You've all played a massive part in him being able to see letters................what a truly amazing award for all your support/donations.
Love Hayley

ONLY 4 DAYS TO GO!!!
Apologies for being quiet for the past few weeks but to say things have been manic is an understatement!!! I'm sure you can appreciate that there's alot of preparation to do. Although, I don't think I'll be fully prepared but just having the HOPE that Keiran's life could improve will be what will get me through the next few days.
I would like to take this time just to thank everyone again from the bottom of my heart for all the kindness, generosity and best wishes that you've given to Keiran & our family. The support we've received is phenonimal & I am truly grateful to every single one of you who's helped us give Keiran the opportunity to try; what could be life changing for him.
There is a chance that he will see Christmas different this year...............what an amazing present you have all played part in giving him???!!!!!!

I'M PROUD OF MY SISTERS
I would just like to thank my two sister's, Georgia & Maddison for everything that they've done to help Mum & Dad over the past 7 months. I know that they have found it quite difficult at times and that we've all been caught up in a lot of fundraising and organising for China. Without you both helping and understanding about the stem cell treatment, I would not be going. So thank you very very much. I love you both loads and I will miss you while I'm away........but we will talk on Skype everyday.
Georgia - well done for passing your 11+. We are all very proud of you. I'm a little bit disappointed that you will not be coming to my school BUT I know that you will do really well at Grammar School, which ever one you choose to go to.
Love ya both.

WHAT AN AMAZING WEEKEND!!
Saturday 26th Sept
Where to begin!! We had a Summer Ball on Saturday evening that my Auntie Stacey, Uncle Jason & friends Peter & John arranged for me at Bearsted Golf Club. There was a mixture of Golfers & Police Officers & my Family. I met some wonderful people and they all took the time to speak with me and gave me lots of praise. It's lovely to meet so many kind & caring people. Mum said the men looked smart in their dinner suits & the ladies looked beautiful in their evening dresses. She also said that I scrubbed up nicely in my dickie bowtie too!! The food was delicious & I even helped mum with hers. I got up on the dancefloor & danced. Peter got Mum up to speak on the microphone, but she was very nervous as I could tell in her voice - but she done well. I won a prize on the raffle & chose 'Dasiy' perfume for mum to say thank you for everything she has done for me.
We have so many people to thank for such a great evening. A massive thank you to the following:
Auntie Stacey & Uncle Jason
Peter & John for all their help
Bearsted Golf Club & Committee Members & all those who came on the evening
The Prick & Pliers Golf Society for their kind donation £250 & also for giving me the opportunity of buying golf clubs if I get some sight
Debbie Noonan for donating a 2 weeks stay in an apartment in Spain
Chris at Co-Operative Travel Care for donating a Hotel & Theatre break
Halfords
Tudor Park Hotel
The Perfume Shop
We received a wonderful surprise on the nite - Dave from Istead United Colts presented me with a cheque for £1,428.66!!! Wow - I was very surprised and would like to thank everyone at Istead United Colts who were involved in arranging & participating in a Blindfolded Penalty Shoot Out. The children were blindfolded & span around 3 times and had to kick the ball at the open goal. Dave said that everyone had a good time and that most of you missed - oops. I think it's fantastic that you had the opportunity to see the world from my eyes. Thank you to you all!!!
But most of all thank you to everyone who came along to the Ball and supported my appeal. I am forever grateful to you all! The evening raised an amazing £1,958
Sunday 27th Sept
Mum & I went to Deptford. We attended Deptford's annual Bus Pull with thanks to Mark; who's a fireman at Deptford Fire Station who put forward my cause to be one of the beneficairies for monies raised along with the Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund. We watched the Fire Brigade, Police Officers & the local pub team take on the challenge of pulling the bus 3/4's of a mile down a road (with speed bumps). It was a great turnout & the weather was good. The pub team won for the first time in 13 years and it was rather noisy when the results were announced as they were very excited. Well done to John Evelyn pub team & a huge thank you to Doug (the landlord) for organising a wonderful event.
I had a great day ................ I got to sit in the Fire Engine & hold the fire hose - which I thought was hilarious as some water came out & splashed on my legs!
Thank you to everyone who supported this event & for all those who were involved with arranging it. I'm planning on coming back next year to watch & cheer you all on again.

WE HAVE REACHED OUR TARGET - DUE TO SO MANY AMAZING PEOPLE
We are so pleased to let people know that we've hit our target! We have been amazed and overwhelmed by people's kindness & generosity. I did not think it would be possible to raise the funds in just over 5 months - what an achievement! Wow - speechless!! We cannot thank you enough. We need to let you know that any funds raised over the amount needed for the trip/treatment will be kept in Keiran's Appeal Fund for ongoing/further medical care. It is not uncommon for patients to repeat the treatment to maximise the results.
I would just like to take the time to thank all our family & friends who have helped us fundraise & for all the support they've given us throughout this whirlwind 6 month journey. Without you all we would not be where we are today! It's times like these that you realise who your real friends are and we couldn't ask for better than you (you know who you are). Thank you to all the family - you've all been fantastic and it's brilliant how everyone's been there for us!!!
Lastly, thank you to all the kind & generous people who have taken the time to listen about Keiran and taken him into their hearts. He truly is a wonderful boy; who has appreciated every single donation that has helped him get this opportunity to go to China with the possiblity of seeing the world with his eyes for the first time!!

WOW - We Are Overwhelmed!! - We've BOOKED treatment!!
We are so overwhelmed with everything that everyone is doing for us, and with the way fundraising is going we HAVE BOOKED KEIRAN'S TREATMENT IN CHINA!!!
We are very near our target and with the this month's events we are sure we will reach our goal!! Something that none of us thought we would achieve in such a short period of time. It has been 5 months and already we've reached over £30,000, which is what we thought we might have reached in 12 months. This is due to the kindness & generosity of the public through donations, however big or small, and through the dedication of everyone who has given their all to Keiran's Appeal. Through this, it is now possible for us to give Keiran the opportunity before christmas, to recieve the treatment and hopefully give him the chance to see.....................................................we have booked and are due to arrive at the hospital in Qingdao 8th November. It is exciting, but a very anxious time for us all. We are back on the roller coaster ride of emotions!! We have so much to arrange & do. The treatment is booked but we still need to book flights, visas, Jabs etc. So the next 9 weeks will be very full on. 9 Weeks sounds like a long time....................................but it'll go so quick!!
Thank you to everyone who's made it possible for us to be able to book this early. I owe everything to you!
What an amazing christmas present I can give my son???!! He's told me he thinks it would be nice if can find his own christmas presents under the tree this year. He's also requested that we pack his advent calendar before we go to China as he want's to make sure he's got normality in China and can't wait til he comes home. So when, I'm doing my packing I must not forget his chocolate calendar!! Somebody please remind me, I don't want to forget!!!
Thank you everyone!!!

ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND - Friends & Family Disco
PLUS 1st STEM CELL AWARENESS DAY IN UK
We held a Friends & Family Disco on Saturday night. I really enjoyed myself. I saw friends that I hadn't seen for a few years and enjoyed chatting to some new faces aswell. I even managed to have a bit of a dance inbetween talking and drinking Fizz. My family and I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that came and supported us, especially those who travelled from Birmingham, Milton Keynes and afar. Hope you all had an enjoyable evening and I look forward to spending quality time with you after my visit to China.
I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Father Christmas Matt for providing us with the music. I really do appreciate you spending time away from Lo Lo to keep everyone entertained. Thank you also to Gareth for coming to the rescue with disco lights. WIthout you the disco would not have gone ahead. Thanks to everyone - we raised: £940 plus donations!! Thanks Guys!!!
Sunday, we got up very early to travel to Manchester for a Stem Cell Awareness Day. We met with Dakota Clarke and her family plus other families that have received the treatment and also those who are fundraising to give their children the opportunity to receive the same treatment. Mum & Dad says it was a 'surreal' day for them. They found the day very informative but emotional at the same time. I sat and listened to various talks and research surrounding the stem cell treatment and I feel at ease about what we are trying to achieve. Yes, I would like guarantee's BUT nothing ever comes with guarantees. BUT I would like the opportunity to give it a try and live in HOPE that it'll make a difference. Either way, I will be the same person, but we would have given it a shot!!!

I've just got back from summer camp with the Action for the Blind. I had a wicked time and made some new friends!! I missed my family but it was nice to be parent free for a week (no offense mum)!!!!
When I came home mum told me that she missed me BLAH, BLAH, BLAH but she also told me our new total on the fundraising for my Appeal ...................................................................
We are pleased to let you all know that, with all your help, support & donations we have raised an amazing
£22,859

WOW - WHAT A GOOD DAY!!! - 16th July 2009
HEMPSTEAD JUNIOR SCHOOL
Where can I start with the day? I was invited to an assembly at Hempstead Junior School - Georgia, Maddie and I was presented - with a cheque for an amazing £645.20.
The money was raised through a cake sale raising over £245. Maggie Berry & her mum (thank you) held a stall at the school fayre and raised over £80 and the rest of the money was raised from collections from Yearr 6 school plays and the music festival.
THANK YOU to everyone at Hempstead School, children, teachers & parents!! All your support is very much appreciated!!! Without your support we would not be where we are now.
So a massive thank you to Mr Bignell (head teacher) and to Mrs Watson & Class 8 and the whole of Hempstead Junior School & everyone that made it possible to raise the funds most needed. We are overwhelmed by the generousity of everyone.
Unfortunately, I embarassed Georgia & Maddie by the fact that I was blubbing in assembly when I was trying to give a speach to say thank you.
Thank you everyone - all your support is very appreciated!!
TO ADD TO THE DAY;
ROBERT NAPIER - VI UNIT
Robert Napier VI Unit held a Fun Day!!
We would like to say a massive thank you to the staff in the VI unit for arranging the event.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the event! The aim was; to run or walk a mile to help Keiran travel the 6,000 miles to China.
It was lovely to see how many people gave up their time (outside of school hours) to raise funds for Keiran. It was a very hot day and our hat goes off to the person dressed as a Bear!! There were people running in their PJ's, neon clothing and even someone being pushed about in a wheel barrow (as they could not run/walk). Thank you to everyone for taking part!! It goes to show that Keiran's liked within the school and that you all really care! The support he recieved was fantastic, and we, his family will never forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You being there is priceless!!
Amount raised to be confirmed Thanks everyone!

CAKE SALE & CHARITY SALE - Hempstead Junior's & Norton-sub-Hamdon School
I would just like to say thank you and good luck to my sisters, Georgia & Maddison and Class 8 at Hempstead Junior School. They are having a cake sale at school today. Thank you to all the parents who have baked and bought cakes for the Sale. I am hoping that Georgia will buy me one and bring it home for me later .........
I would also like to thank Courtney and Yr 6 at Norton-sub-Hamdon Primary School in Somerset. They are holding a Charity Sale today to raise money for; Save The Bears and my Appeal. I hope the weather stays sunny and that you all have a wonderful time at the sale.
Courtney, I hope you don't get too many water balloons thrown at you in the stock's!! It sounds like you've been having fun with your wacky hair day, posh clothes day and wearing odd shoes to school. I wish we had days like that at my school! Wish we could be there but I will speak to you and the family very soon.
Thank you also to everyone who's sent donations - you know who you are - we really really appreciate it and without all the kindness and generousity of people I would not have the hope of sight.

RIVERSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL FAYRE - Rainham
On Saturday Mum, Auntie Tamsin, Natalie and I went to my old Primary School and held a stall at their summer fayre. I was helping selling Tombola tickets with Mum while Auntie Tamsin was busy facepainting fantastic creations on children's faces. Thanks Auntie T for doing a great job. Mum said that all the faces looked really good, including hers!!
It was a really good day as I got to chat with some of my old teachers and LSA's. They couldn't believe how much I'd grown.
Thank you very much to Mrs Frame, headteacher, at Riverside Primary School and the PTFA for asking us to come and be part of the school fayre. We raised £101 from the day. Thanks everyone. Hope to see some of you again soon.

MEDWAY MESSENGER - 8th June
Today my appeal is in the paper. There is a photo of all the lovely people who gave up their Sunday (24th May) to walk 15 miles to raise an incredible amount of money; £3,761 for my appeal. They have also mentioned our Boogie Wonderland event at Blue's. Unfortunately, I'm not able to attend this event as it's over 18's only but I will be at plenty of others!
I'd just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who is working their socks off to arrange events and raise money for me. I know it's hard work and I know it can be stressful, but my family and I appreciate everything that you are all doing to help us get to our goal.
I had an appointment at St Thomas's today in London. I had drops in my eyes and have very large pupils at the moment. It doesn't hurt but it's horrible when they put the drops in as it stings. We are now waiting for an appointment to go to Great Ormond Street to have my vision throughly screened.......so watch this space.

O.M.G .......I'm on the tele. I'm on the BBC NEWS!!!! TODAY AT 6.30pm BBC 1
Today me, mum, dad and my 2 sisters have been interviewed by Rob Smith at BBC South East News. I was very surprised when I got told at school that he was coming in to interview me. I was very very nervous and worried. My family and I all sat on the sofa waiting patiently for it to come on the tv. My heart was racing very fast as I was nervous about hearing my voice and worried at what people would think. I was relieved and pleased once it had finished and all my family said that I done really well. Mum said that Rob's coverage of my story/cause was covered brilliantly. So thank you very much Rob. Please click the link where you can see part of my interview with the BBC South East..
